Valley Floors in Doña Ana

Our epoxy flooring work in Doña Ana covers garages, workshops and outdoor slabs in a small community with deep roots. Doña Ana sits north of Las Cruces, with Interstate 25 along its eastern edge and access at Exit 9. Wikipedia counted 874 residents in 2020. The community is named for Doña Ana Robledo, who died there in 1680 while fleeing the Pueblo Revolt. When British traveler George Ruxton passed through in 1846, he described it as a very recent settlement of ten or fifteen families.

Farm country roots

Ruxton wrote that the first families came up from El Paso-area farms for richer soil along the Rio Grande. Farming has shaped the area since. Properties here often have more than one slab: an attached garage, a detached shop, a barn or equipment shed, and a patio. Each one sees different use. We look at every slab on your property during the estimate and suggest a system for each one, so you are not paying for a high-end finish on a tractor bay.

Which coating fits which building

| Space | What we usually suggest | |---|---| | Family garage | Full flake epoxy with a polyaspartic topcoat | | Equipment shop | Thick 100% solids epoxy with a chemical-resistant topcoat | | Covered patio or porch | Textured exterior coating in a light color | | Old, cracked slab | Crack repair and grinding first, then coating |

Big households, busy garages

In the 2000 census, households here averaged 3.09 people and families averaged 3.43, larger than the Las Cruces average. A bigger household usually means a garage full of bikes, freezers, storage shelving and a car or two. That kind of use wears bare concrete quickly. A flake floor hides scuffs, and the clear topcoat keeps spills from staining. We can also coat the step into the house and the low curb along the walls so the whole space looks finished.

Older slabs in an older community

The 2000 census counted 465 housing units in Doña Ana. Many valley homes and outbuildings went up over many decades, and some slabs have been added onto or patched. Common issues we find:

  • Cracks where a newer slab meets an older one
  • Low spots that hold water after storms
  • Floor paint or sealer that is peeling
  • Oil and fuel stains in shop areas

We grind, degrease, fill and level as needed before coating. If a slab is still moving, we tell you and explain the options.

Spring dust and summer storms

Doña Ana shares the valley's weather: windy, dusty spring afternoons and late-summer thunderstorms. A barn or shop door left open lets in a lot of grit, and storm runoff can carry mud across a slab. A sealed floor sweeps clean and rinses off. For shops that see water and mud, we add texture to the topcoat for better footing and keep the finish easy to hose down toward a door or drain.

Doña Ana Questions

Can you coat a garage, a shop and a patio on the same property?

Yes. We look at each slab and suggest the right system for each, then quote them on one estimate with separate lines. Doing them in one trip often saves time on scheduling.

My shop floor has fuel and oil soaked in. Can it still be coated?

Usually. We grind and degrease the stained areas so the coating can bond. Very old, deep contamination sometimes needs extra cleaning or a special primer, and we will tell you if that applies.

Do you coat barns or equipment sheds with open sides?

We can coat slabs in partly open buildings, but sun, wind and dust affect the system choice and the install day. We use a UV-stable topcoat and pick a calm day. We look at the building first and tell you what will hold up.
