Work Floors for a Growing Region
Commercial and shop floor epoxy covers any concrete that gets more abuse than a home garage: warehouses, auto and equipment shops, fabrication spaces, retail floors and storage buildings. The Las Cruces economy leans on New Mexico State University, White Sands Missile Range, health care and government, and Wikipedia notes that Virgin Galactic is headquartered in the city. To the south, the Santa Teresa area is home to a port of entry and a 1,100-acre rail park. That mix brings plenty of shop, service and storage floors that need a durable finish.
What makes a commercial floor different
Commercial floors see rolling loads, dropped tools, fluids and constant foot traffic. They need a thicker build, and the system has to match what spills on it. HomeAdvisor lists heavy-duty 100% solids commercial and industrial coatings at $12 or more per square foot. HomeGuide rates solid epoxy at 10 to 20 years of life, against 3 to 5 years for water-based, so we do not use thin water-based products on work floors.
Systems we use
- 100% solids epoxy: a thick, hard build for general warehouse and shop use.
- Flake or quartz broadcast: added texture and wear resistance for wet or busy areas.
- Polyaspartic or urethane topcoats: chemical and UV resistance where doors stay open.
- Safety markings: coated aisle lines, parking stripes and work zone borders.
Scheduling around your business
Most businesses cannot close for a week. We can phase a floor so one section is done while the rest stays in use, or work over a weekend with a fast-curing topcoat. HomeGuide puts full cure at 1 to 2 days for polyaspartic and up to a week for epoxy, so the system choice and the schedule are planned together. Large open floors in summer also need temperature planning. Epoxy should go down between about 60°F and 85°F, so we may start before dawn or work with your building's cooling.
Prep for older or oil-soaked slabs
Shop floors often carry years of oil, old paint and patches. Oil-soaked concrete has to be cleaned and ground until the coating can bond, and some areas may need to be cut out and patched. Expansion joints are left open and sealed with a flexible filler so the floor can move without cracking the coating. We cover all of this in the walkthrough.
Cleaning and upkeep
Coated floors can be swept, dust-mopped and auto-scrubbed. Desert dust blows into open bay doors, so a regular sweep keeps grit from wearing the topcoat. High-traffic lanes can be recoated later without redoing the full system.
What to have ready for a walkthrough
The square footage, the kind of traffic the floor carries (foot, carts, forklifts, vehicles), any chemicals or fluids used on it, and the hours or days the space can be closed. With that we can quote a system and a schedule.

Commercial & Shop Floor Epoxy Questions
How much does commercial epoxy flooring cost?
HomeAdvisor lists heavy-duty 100% solids commercial coatings at $12 or more per square foot. Lighter-duty spaces can fall within residential ranges of $4 to $12. Prep for oil-soaked or damaged slabs adds to the total.
Can you coat our floor without closing the business?
Often, yes. We can phase the floor in sections or work over a weekend with a fast-curing polyaspartic topcoat. We plan the schedule with you before the quote is final.
Will epoxy hold up to forklifts?
A thick 100% solids system over properly ground concrete is built for that kind of traffic. Thin water-based coatings are not, which is why we do not use them on work floors.
How long does a commercial floor coating last?
HomeGuide gives solid epoxy a life of 10 to 20 years, with commercial use often on the shorter end. Recoating worn traffic lanes extends the life of the full system.
