Floors for a Working Village
Epoxy flooring in Vinton fits a place that was built around work. The village incorporated on August 8, 1961, as the Village of Industry, and the push to incorporate came from Border Steel Corporation, which opened a mill there that year. The mill is now owned by ArcelorMittal and still operates. Many Vinton properties include a shop, a big garage or a work bay, and those floors take abuse that a typical living-room-style garage never sees.
Shop floors need a thicker system
A floor under a welding bench, a lift or a work truck gets hit with dropped tools, hot metal, hydraulic fluid and dragged equipment. A thin coating will chip and peel there. For working floors we use thicker builds:
- 100% solids epoxy base for strength and chemical resistance
- Broadcast quartz or flake for a textured, slip-resistant surface
- A chemical-resistant topcoat that stands up to oil, coolant and brake fluid
- Repaired joints and edges so a forklift wheel or jack does not catch
If part of the floor sees welding spatter, we talk about that area in particular. No coating is fireproof. Where hot slag lands often, a bare or sacrificial area may be the smart choice.
A village that grew fast
Vinton's population was 372 in 1980 and 605 in 1990. By 2000 it had reached 1,892, and the 2020 census counted 2,684 people. Growth like that brings a mix of slabs: older farm and shop concrete next to garages poured in the 1990s and 2000s. Older slabs often carry oil that has soaked in deep, which has to be degreased and ground out before anything will bond. Newer slabs are usually sound but smooth, and they still need grinding.
Households with room to fill
In 2000 the average Vinton household had 3.81 people, and the median age was 23. Big households fill a garage fast with vehicles, bikes, freezers and tools. For those garages we often recommend a flake system that hides wear, with a polyaspartic topcoat so the space is back in use quickly. If you also run a side business out of the garage, we can price a heavier system on the work half and a standard system on the parking half.
Old route, old ground
Vinton has been a stop on the road north for centuries. The Spanish made it a stop on the Camino Real. It was called La Salinera, then Cottonwood, and the Butterfield Overland Mail ran Cottonwood Station there from 1858 to 1861. The current name honors Southern Pacific surveyor John C. Vinton, who laid out the rail route in 1881. Today the village sits in El Paso County between Anthony and Canutillo, a short drive from our Las Cruces base.
How we quote a shop floor
We measure the space, check for moisture, map cracks and oil-soaked areas, and ask how the floor is used day to day. The written quote names the system, the thickness, the prep and the total. If the slab needs repair first, that is its own line.
Keeping a shop floor in service
A coated shop floor is easy to keep up. Squeegee spills toward the door, wipe up fluids before they sit, and use pads under jack stands and welding tables. Heavy wear lanes can get a fresh topcoat years later without redoing the whole system, as long as the base is still bonded.

Vinton Questions
Can epoxy hold up under a car lift?
Yes, with the right build. We use a thick 100% solids system and make sure the slab under the lift posts is sound. Lift anchors should be set in solid concrete. We coordinate with you on whether the lift goes in before or after the coating.
My shop floor is soaked with old oil. Can it be coated?
Often, yes. We degrease the floor, grind out the contaminated surface and test the bond. Floors with oil soaked very deep may need extra treatment. We tell you what we find before you commit.
Can you do a heavy system on half the garage and a lighter one on the rest?
Yes. Splitting the floor is common for owners who work out of their garage. We price each area separately on the written quote.
